We may not realize it, but we have a lot more things going right in our life than we actually think we do. But most of the times, our eyes are too blind to see the precious gifts that we are lucky to have, and our mind is programmed to focus on and obsess about the negative stuff. It’s easy to lose sight of the blessings we have when we have too much painful moments to bear. So we often feel that nothing ever goes right, that we’re always unlucky, or that we are passing through a never-ending difficult or dark phase.
How can we have hope in something better when we are going through tragic situations such as illness, grieving someone’s death, financial difficulties, unemployment, job dissatisfaction, work pressure, depression, stress, loneliness, heartbreaks, family issues, or simply going through a series of bad events? How can we feel good, happy, lucky or grateful when so many things aren’t going right?
Truth is, life won’t get better until we start appreciating what we already have and start being thankful for it.
Yes, no matter how tough our life currently is, how deep our problems are, how painful our suffering is, we must remember that we always have at least something to be thankful for. And we are blessed. Blessed to be alive, blessed to have today, blessed to have tomorrow. Blessed for God’s presence in our life. For the precious family that is still there. The people that love us. The friends that never leave us. The place that we call home. The legs that still walk. The good and bad moments that made us. The happy memories that we hold on to. The difficult experiences that toughened us up. The tears that roll from our eyes and make us human. The lips that still find a way to smile after it all. The ability to love, to help others and to make a difference in their lives. The music that lifts us up. The ability to make mistakes, and to start all over again. The second chances we get. The lessons learned. The strength we are given. The ability to create. And all the other simple things we take for granted.
So never lose faith, never lose hope, and never stop being thankful for all that you have. You are far more fortunate than you think you are. Remind yourself that there are so many things in your life that other people only wished they had. Be thankful for everything and everyone, the good and the bad, the easy and the difficult. Learn to appreciate all that God has given you and always be grateful to life. You are one lucky and blessed person, always remember that.
Have you been counting your blessings lately? What are the things in your life that you are grateful for?
